Tarus Concealed Carry

Concealed Carry Pistols From Taurus

My pocket carry guns are some of my most vital weapons. I believe in concealed carry and depending on the situation I have several options. I’m always impressed and amazed with new introductions into the world of concealed carry. Taurus, who has over 60 years’ experience in the manufacturing of guns, has several pistols in their SLIM line including different calibers from 9mm, .40 cal or even .380 ACP.

Small pistols chambered in .380 ACP have long had a following. Many people, however, want a large pistol chambered in a large caliber. I often see people purchase the wrong caliber for their first concealed carry gun. Maybe they choose the smallest gun but soon discover they are not happy with the recoil or groupings they are getting in target practice. On the other hand some individuals purchase too large of a pistol or revolver and have difficulty concealing the weapon. No gun is going to be perfect for everyone which is why I am happy to see a company offer not only different chambering options but different sizes as well.

As I discuss the options from Taurus keep in mind as with any compact handgun the recoil can be a handful. They are easy to carry, but hard to shoot. When you make a gun small and light for carry the more unpleasant it is going to be when fired. You have to give up something in order to gain it somewhere else. Here are some options from Taurus that are worth a look:

The Taurus Compact Pistol – TCP – is their lightest low profile pistol coming in at 10.2 oz of high performance and is available in either .380 or .32 ACP with a 6+1 magazine. This lightweight polymer frame even comes with a unique PDA-style case.

From the Taurus SLIM line I have two favorites the 709 and 740. These are the thinnest 9mm and .40 calibers in their class. With concealed carry you want to think not only about how you dress but the lines of the gun. The SLIM line of pistols offers clean, flat lines to keep the gun hidden under t-shirts or polos. In addition the SLIM line features a short, crisp single action/double action trigger pull and low-profile fixed sights. I feel their trigger pull is in line with other pocket guns I have tested. It is smooth and consistent. The SLIM weighs just 19 ounces and measures just over 6 inches long and is less than 1 inch thick. Taurus also has superior safety systems with a visual loaded chamber indicator, a new trigger safety, manual safety and even the unique Taurus Security System that allows you to securely look the gun using an inconspicuous key-lock.

If you prefer a revolver for pocket carry the DT .357 magnum is tough to beat coming in at only 20 ounces. It’s got a tough lightweight polymer body frame with fiber optic front sights and a 2 inch barrel. This 5 shot wonder has a low profile hammer and a rubber grip.

Whatever weapon you choose for your concealed carry gun, I recommend constant practice. I know with the cost of ammo and the time constraints of everyday life I know you may not be able to shoot your gun every month, but I do recommend shooting it as often as you can. Familiarity with the weapon may save your life. Choose a gun that works for you, ammo your gun likes to shoot and acquaint yourself with your new concealed carry gun.
